Daily Foods for a Healthy Life
I came across this calendar of mine at my workplace. Every new month features a new food item which is readily available and extremely beneficial to health. The following items are listed below and I thought I’ll share this with you guys! 1. Apples – high in fibre and vitamin C, it contains flavonoids which are known to have anti inflammatory and anti cancer actions, and also reduce blood cholesterol levels 2. Bell pepper – contain high levels of antioxidant, can help to reduce risk of heart disease, and rich source of vitamin C 3. Tomatoes – contain lycopene which is a power cancer fighter, rich source of vitamin C and E 4. Chinese tea- drinking regularly can help to remedy many health problems like hypertension, cancer and heart diseases 5. Water – maintaining/regulating body’s systems, transport nutrients to cells within the blood, and aids in food digestion and regulate body temperature. 6. Strawberry – ellagic acid found in them appear to inhibit tumour growths, can also raise the antioxidant levels in the body, and a rich source of vitamin C 7. Bak choi (小白菜)– calcium for healthy bones, carotenoids are also present to act as antioxidants and reduce free radical damage in the body 8. Peaches – low in calories, rich in iron, potassium, vitamin C and provides a gentle laxative effect 9. Lemons – high in vitamin C content, anti cancer effects due to limonoid phytochemicals found in it. Lower cholesterol levels too. 10. Carrots- contain extremely high beta-carotene content, protection against coronary heart disease and several cancers, lower blood cholesterol and guard against food poisoning. 11. Grapes- contain powerful antioxidants and resveratrol, which helps to prevent narrowing and hardening of the arteries, ellagic acid present are known to have cancer prevention properties. 12. Oranges- high source of vitamin C, maintain body defense, flavonoids reduce the risk of some cancers.
